Hello!
I used to love reading. I have very vivid memories of my mum tucking me into bed at night when I was a child, maybe 6 or 7, and then I’d sneak out of bed and get a book to read and she’d catch me reading when I should be asleep.
I also used to steal chocolate but that’s a different story.
I always loved reading – I used to have series and series of books, mostly horse or ballet related. I was one of those snobby kids that didn’t like the magic rainbow fairy books because, at 8 or 9 years old, I decided it was exactly the same plot with a different fairy and I got bored.
When I went to secondary school, my love for reading dwindled a little bit – instead of reading before I went to sleep I’d scroll through my fancy new iPod touch because at 13, a device with a touch screen was far more interesting.
But I still love buying books – I have, no exaggeration, over 600 books and I’ve read less than half of them which I’m frankly embarrassed about.
After my last exam is done in just six days (I’m so excited) I’m going to start reading again. I’m going to find a few books that I’m really excited to read, find a nice spot on the sofa or in the garden if the weather’s nice and I’m just going to read.
I’m hoping this will make getting back into writing again will get easier too, but I’m so excited to rediscover my love for reading because it makes me really sad that I’m no longer someone who can say ‘I love reading’.
I’m going to become that person again. I might even get round to reading the Divergent series at long last!
Thank you for reading,
Sophie xx
