Spotify vs Apple music?

2016, music, Uncategorized

Hello!

I love music and I love being subscribed to a streaming service because I get access to so much music – I’ve had a Spotify account for six or seven years but I’m considering moving to using Apple music, so I thought I’d make a pros and cons list of which service could be better for me. Thought it might be an interesting blog post!

I have many years of Spotify playlists and I don’t want to lose them and transferring them would take a very, very long time (the Jonas Brothers are on my Starred playlist, it’s been a very long time since I went through my Jonas Brothers phase). This is my main reason for wanting to stay with Spotify.

However, Apple is said to have better availability, choice, quality and radio capabilities (according to a few articles I’ve read anyways) and the ‘radio’ stuff on Spotify is brilliant because I just put a song in and it comes up with a bunch that are like it, but my flatmate has Apple music and he has some brilliant playlists.

But because I’ve had Spotify so long, consequently it knows me a little better so when it suggests music for me it usually gets it really right and Spotify is far more accessible over other devices than Apple Music is. However, I do mostly use my iPhone to listen to music where both Apple music and Spotify are very easily accessible.

I find in terms of the app Spotify is much easier to use than Apple Music but I’m sure anyone that uses Apple Music will tell me otherwise.

So anyone have any opinions on Spotify vs Apple Music?? I’m very interested to see what people think so please leave a comment!

Thank you for reading,

Sophie xx

What my links mean!

2016

Hello!

I put my links at the end of every blog post I write but I’ve never really talked about them or promoted them in any other way so I thought I’d talk you through them and explain in a bit more detail, in case you want to follow me anywhere else!

Facebook: I set up my Facebook page earlier this year as a communal place where I can post everything I’m making all over the internet in one place – blog posts I’m writing over all my many blogs that I run, YouTube videos I make, things I’ve done on News Day, things I’ve made with other people – everything. It’s going to get busier and busier as the end of this year and the beginning of next year approaches!

YouTubeI make YouTube videos! If you’re new, hello that’s new information, if you’re not new – I’ve actually been making videos longer than I’ve been blogger but I find blogging a lot easier than YouTube so I have done a lot more of it. My channel is nearly three years old now and in the New Year, I’m going back to weekly content. I’ve been jotting down loads of ideas and I don’t know if I can wait two more months to be creative again I’m so excited. I have a schedule. An actual schedule!

TwitterI tweet a lot. Like a lot of things, most of my thoughts are tweeted. That’s not always a good thing but I tweet a lot so it’s worth mentioning.

14697056_10207285187468796_377329135_o

I have a lot of twitter accounts that I run – @SophieALuckett is my oldest account for generic thoughts and things. @sophie_luckett is my ‘professional’ twitter where all of my blog posts and stuff go. @hamwicproduces is a twitter I set up for the ‘production company’ that my friends and I were going to set up but I feel like I’m the only one that cares so there’s nothing on it. @thestudentseat is the twitter for the student blog I’ve set up! All the links to blog posts that are written for The Student Seat and for networking a little bit – I’m trying to make that blog a bit more business like? Penultimate twitter – @sophintheclouds is essentially an extention of SophieALuckett where I don’t limit myself with what I want to tweet – it’s a lot of tweeting shit. The things I restrain and don’t post on SophieALuckett, go on sophintheclouds. I don’t even recommend following about it.

I shall talk about SSUJournalism in a little bit!

Instagram: I’m really into Instagram right now – I just like pretending I’m more indie tumblr hipster than I actually am but I really love my Instagram and I love posting on there quite a lot recently. Pictures are fun!

Snapchat: @SophieALuckett – I snapchat a lot I’m obsessed with snapchat. It’s usually just my flatmate and boyfriend doing stupid things and a lot of pretentious selfies. Love it.

Uni blogI set up this blog last year to document what I was doing at university from an educational point of view, whilst this blog is more for what I do in my personal life. I’ve just started using it again so if you want to have a look at what I’ve been doing at uni in the past couple of weeks go have a look!

The Student Seat: The new blog I set up for students and student experiences! You can read more about what this blog is about and what it’s for in the About section of the blog but I always link it here so you can have a look if you’re interested! I love running this blog and writing for it because I love student life and working with other contributors.

And for this week only, SSU Journalism! As part of News Days this week, I’m the Social Media Assistant Producer so I’ll be putting up a bunch of content over the Facebook page and the Twitter page until next Wednesday where my privileges will be revoked and I’ll just be a news journalist again.

I hope you feel a bit more informed about my links and where else I live on the internet! I’m feeling very motivated to make content right now.

Thank you for reading,

Sophie xx

September Favourites

2016

Hello!

This post was actually scheduled to go up on Friday but with the MAC event I went to being on Thursday, I figured I’d write that post on Friday and give you a bonus Sunday post too!

14488973_10207197561238195_1267024757_o

The first thing on my favourites this month is an app that me and Lucas have been playing for a while now – it’s called Mystic Words and we’re obsessed. You get seven word clues and then tiles with combinations of 2, 3 and 4 letters and you have to figure out the words. We’re on the 6th pack, Level 26 and that means we’ve done a lot of levels… like maybe a couple of hundred levels… maybe… I mean, at least it’s not something mindless like flappy bird.

We mostly enjoy making silly words out of the word tiles. Envelope was not envelope.

I loved the Jungle Book before September – the animated film was a massive part of my childhood and the new ‘live-action’ film is absolutely astonishing, I adore it. So when Lucas bought me this set for my birthday, I was very excited. I’ve since watched it twice. I might watch it again tomorrow now that I’m reminding myself how good it is.

And this is the first DVD in my collection of Disney DVDs! I’ve decided I’m starting my own collection so now it’s officially been started.

I really love the new flat I’m living in… over the summer, my boyfriend and I had a separate contract with the same company so we only moved into our flat for the year at the beginning of the month. Would you like a full flat tour with lots of pictures? Leave a comment if that’s something you’re interested in!

img_9007

Another birthday present! This one came from my friend Nikki and it’s this gorgeous candle holder – it came with all these wax melts that you put in the little dish on top and they all melt together and smell amazing. I’m obsessed with it and I’m glad to have an excuse to be burning candles again! I just love candles. A lot.

Now this is one of my favourite favourites – NYX lip colours. I’ve seen a lot of amazing things about NYX products and particularly the matte liquid lip colours and I was so impressed – they’re so easy to apply, they last so well and they were so reasonably priced…

img_8994

So I bought four? I just… I love red and dark purple lip colours but also nudes and I got all of these for less than £25! That’s cheaper than the MAC lipstick and pencil I bought!

I have NYX Lingerie in Bedtime Flirt, two NYX Liquid Suedes in Cherry Skies and Kitten Heels and a NYX Matte Lipstick in Siren. I’m obsessed with all of the above.

img_8996

This one is more of a birthday present to myself… let me explain; I’ve wanted some decent over-ear headphones for a while, I bought a cheap pair but they weren’t the size I wanted so I sent them back. I saw these Ted Baker headphones and I was in love – they looked beautiful, they looked the size I wanted and yes, the £47 which was cheap compared to the ones that were hundreds of pounds but it was too much for me to spend on one thing.

Then my birthday came around. I got Amazon vouchers for my birthday. I used about £2 of my own money in the end and oh my goodness, they’re absolutely beautiful. I wear them all the time – to the gym, when I’m editing, when I just want to mask in their beauty.

This photo album I’ve been excited about for a long time – I’ve wanted this ever since I did my first shift at Paperchase and since being fired for no valid reason, I obviously don’t want to go back to the Southampton store, so I waited until I was home for my birthday and my Dad offered to buy it for me!

I got a bunch of my favourite photos from my first year of university printed out in the style of polaroids and I stuck them all in the scrapbook and I really do love it. I’m now someone who’s going to make photo albums for everything because I love the idea of being able to look back on all of these photos when I’m old, maybe with children and grandchildren and telling them the story of when my flatmate Nick wore a Chewbacca onesie and said ‘Chewwie got dollaaaaa’.

img_9008

Another delayed Paperchase purchase – I was thinking about if I wanted a new bag for uni this year and I came to the conclusion that I only every take my laptop to uni so I only really need a laptop bag and this one is beautiful.

img_9010

It’s a black padded material, pretty bog standing doesn’t draw too much attention but it’s the rose gold detailing I like – all of the metallic elements, including the zip, are a beautiful rose gold colour and I feel like it’s a perfect bag for me. I love it.

img_8997

This was another birthday present to myself – I’ve wanted a Nintendo DS for a while. Since being with my boyfriend I feel like I’ve been reintroduced to the gaming world and with Pokemon Go coming out and my consequent new obsession with that and the new Sun and Moon games coming out in November, I wanted my own console.

This is a New 3DS XL in Metallic Black. I picked it up from CEX because it was about £35 cheaper than buying it brand new and it still works like new. Lucas has leant me his copy of Pokemon Y so I can familiarise myself with the game before the new ones come out and I’m really excited about it.

I blame Lucas.

(Also I know I’m about 15 years late with the Pokemon thing but I never watched it or played it as a kid… I’m having a good time so it’s okay)

img_9000

The last thing in my favourites this month is the Collection ‘Lasting Perfection’ Concealer. Any beauty bloggers out there would be screaming at me – yes, I know I’m a million years late to the party but holy smokes this concealer! It blends absolutely beautifully, the first time I used it I was surprised that it took so little effort to blend it in to my foundation.

I’m obsessed and I’ve already bought a second one for when my first one runs out because I adore this concealer to try and cover my awful eye bags.

So there are my 10 favourites for this month! I really like writing these posts – would you like them to be a regular feature?  If you enjoyed this post please do leave a comment because I’d love the feedback!

It wouldn’t always be 10 things and it wouldn’t all be beauty or a particular genre of items, it would just be a nice round up of things I’ve loved in the month!

Thank you for reading,

Sophie xx

Tech Wish List!

2016

Hello!

I’ve been making YouTube videos and vlogging for nearly three years now and as a very creative person, I often have ideas and visions of content I want to make but am limited in terms of quality or, in some cases, functionality of my equipment to make what I want.

I often daydream about the kind of equipment I’d like to buy and I figure this list could be a vlogger/blogger/creative persons dream so I thought I’d share my dream kit list for you today!

(Side note: the header photo includes my current kit with is a Canon 100D DSLR, a Rode mic I bought from a friend and a Samsung point and shoot camera that I kind remember the model name of, alongside my little SD card wallet and a lens cap)

Canon EOS M10 – bridging the gap between a DSLR and a generic powershot camera, it has a detachable lens and a lot of the automatic features of a point and shot. I just want to play. It would look so beautiful I’m so pumped.

GoPro Hero 4 Black – I feel like every YouTuber wants a GoPro. A lot of YouTubers have a GoPro but I really, really want one. When I went to Centre Parcs with my family in June we rented bikes and I really wanted to do a montage video but didn’t want to smash my iPhone that I was vlogging with at the time. I really want to go swimming at some point and it would be so cool to be able to do like an underwater vlog. I feel like I’d do more adventurous things if I had a GoPro.

Phantom 3 Drone – I’ve not really done much research into drones, I think I like the idea of a drone more than actually having one but it would make monthly vlogs look really cool. I don’t know how many different shots I could get in Southampton but before the novelty wore off (and if I travelled somewhere fun) it would be amazing.

Soft box lighting – I’ve got to use softboxes before in photography at uni but to have my own ones to have actual good light in my big girl videos (that’s what I call videos that aren’t like follow me around vlogs). I currently use a floor lamp that cost me £7 from Argos and a bedside lamp, which actually works really well but this is a dream list right? I’ll put everything on my dream list.

Canon 5D – now this is a very, very expensive camera that I would be reluctant to hold in case I dropped. But it’s very pretty. And makes absolutely beautiful video and photographic content. The Mark III is extortionate and the Mark IV is available for pre-order. It would make the fairy lights in the background of my big girl videos very blurry.

Lenses – a variety of lenses means a bigger variety of content and quality and I have a lot of opportunity to rent these kinds of lenses from university but again; dream list, in an ideal world, having these lenses for myself would be fun. It’s part of my aim to make vlogs and content as beautiful as The Michalaks who essentially make a little film every week to document their lives for their two year old son when he grows up. They’re such an amazing, hardworking family, I truly adore them.

iMac – again, I have access to iMac’s at university and I have a Macbook Pro but again; ideal. If I had a separate computer for editing videos, photography and blogging then it would free up space on my laptop for other bits and it can be for relaxation rather than working (if you can call blogging working). I know that makes me sound so whiny and spoilt but this isn’t something I’m saying I need now, it’s just if I had the spare money this is what I might spend it on (realistically I’d go travelling but that’s not the point!).

I’d probably invest in a selection of mics and mic stands too, but I’ve not thought too much about those so don’t have any links or anything!

I daren’t think about how much this list costs. I fully intend to work and work and get to a point where I can afford to spend money on equipment like this, but currently I’m working on getting to the point!

Thank you for reading,

Sophie xx
