May favourites

2017, lifestyle, music, photography, student

Hello!

Another favourites post! I’ve done this one a little differently and separated it into different categories, but I’ve been loving a lot of things this month so let’s crack right on!

beauty

Highlighters are my new guilty pleasure and for the first time in my life I don’t mean the florescent stationery kind. My ‘go to’ every day make up is eyebrows, mascara, lipstick and highlighter because it just makes me feel cute because I have glittery cheeks. I picked up these beauties while I was home last week in the shades Iridescent Gold and Pink Shimmer from MUA and they were only £3 each! They’re super pigmented and the colour is really clear – it’s not very subtle but I like to go a bit overboard on the highlighter so if that’s what you’re into I’d definitely recommend them!

organisation

As I’m lacking in the florescent stationery highlighters, I need a new way to organise! Not really – I love my bullet journal and it’s good for organising the finer details of things but for an overview of what my month looks like in a more general way then I like putting everything into Apple Calendars. I like being able to have different categories and I can sync with my other Apple-product-using friends and I like having it on my computer where everything else is in my journal. I like the combination of the two.

food

I think it was April when my mum and sister came to visit and we drove to the beach and had ice cream but this New Forest Toffee Crunch Ice Cream was beautiful and I can buy it in big tubs at Asda but they’re £3 a pot and somehow a highlighter feels like a better way to spend my money. If you’re on the South Coast of the UK at any point over the summer I thoroughly recommend it! I might have to treat myself.

watching

Fairytale – my boyfriend is really into anime and he’s been asking if I want to watch this one for a while. He gave me no context of what it was about but the other day he said to me “I just want to show you the title sequences!” and then proceeded to show me all of episode one. Whilst I wasn’t too pleased to be manipulated into watching his show (when he outright refuses to watch anything I suggest even when he watched a couple of episodes and enjoyed it… not that I’m salty) it is actually really good – I often find animes to be too melodramatic and serious (which I don’t mind, like I still enjoy them but it’s a tiny grievance of mine) but this one is really funny and the title sequence song from the first arc is amazing, I thoroughly recommend putting this cover by NateWantsToBattle on repeat for a while.

Doctor Who – I’m one of those Doctor Who fans. I’ve been watching the series since Freema Agyeman was David Tennant’s assistant in 2007 and I’ve watched every episode since and this season is really close to being one of my favourites (but nothing will ever beat Matt Smith and Karen Gillan’s series 5) – I wish this was what Capaldi’s first season as the doctor had been like because I feel like fans would have liked that so much more (though I have a lot of opinions on Series 8/9 Doctor/Clara Who). It’s something I could write a whole blog post about so let me know if you want that!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – I saw this film right at the beginning of the month so I couldn’t write a full on review for it, but all I can say is if you like comedy go see this film, even if you’re not into action superheroes and even if you’ve not seen the first film it’s absolutely brilliant. Personally I think it matched the first one in the perfect way without overshadowing it – the special effects were absolutely astonishing, the action moments were incredible, it was hilarious, surprisingly heartwarming and I wish I could afford to go and see it again!

Also Baby Groot – I’ll say nothing more.

things I’ve created

I wasn’t so sure of this as a segment but I’m really proud of this content and why not a favourites post to be able to share what I’m proud of?

2017 beginner’s bullet journal flip through – this whole video was really last minute and took me a surprisingly long time to edit but I’m really proud of it and the comments are so positive! I’m can’t wait to do another flip through in a few months or when I finish the book! I got to nerd out about organisation and stationery and I loved it.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BUxDHOLg6lB/?taken-by=ahealthiersophie

New instagram – ahealthiersophie – I started this because I watched John Green’s series ‘100 Days‘ and he said he found it was much easier to control his diet when he made himself document it all and that’s what sprouted the idea. But I didn’t want the account to be 100% food so I post twice a day to break it up a bit. The intent was to post lots of workout photos and show how I was being healthy in that aspect but that only really started in June when I started this 30 Day Ab Challenge but it’s been an outlet for me to talk a lot about my mental health. May has been a really tough month and I’ve multiple people message me like ‘u okai??!11!’ and I’ve had some amazing conversations with my friend Sarah about a potential diagnosis (obvs not going to say anything ‘official’ (???) until I’ve been to the doctors but I’m working on the courage for that) and it’s been very therapeutic. It’s also highlighted a lot of scary things that go on in my brain but I think that’s a good thing.

Lupton and Luckett – new YouTube channel with Alice! My friend Alice and I kinda joked in Instagram comments about starting a channel now here we are – Video 1 live, Video 2 filmed (it’s a baking video, I thoroughly recommend subscribing for that going live next Thursday!) and videos planed all summer. I love Alice and I’m so ridiculously excited to create with her. She’s so little and cute (and I look like a mouldy purple potato next to her) but I love this girl and I think you’ll love her too.

my ‘no spend’ month – the blog post I wrote literally two days ago! In May I found out that I had a savings account that I’d completely forgotten about and I closed it and withdrew the cash (which was vewy nice) but it’s going straight into my other savings account for my travel funds but on a similar note, I’m trying to really save my money and get out of my overdraft right now so I cut back a lot in May and I wrote a whole post about it which I’m really excited about because I tried a new kind of format and style and I’m really excited about it.

These posts always end up being really long and I don’t think I mind, because it’s nice to share things I like and just type and type and type and suddenly there’s a thousand words. Blogging is really therapeutic for me and I’m very excited about not having uni distract from it for a few months.

Thank you for reading,

make-up ideas for hooded eyes

2017, lifestyle, photography, student

Hello!

When you watch any make-up or beauty vloggers or bloggers, they have these gorgeous big eyes and they you can see all the detail of the five different eyeshadow colours they’ve used and the glitter and the delicate little eyeliner flick.

If I try to recreate this on my eyes, it looks okay when I’m applying it with my eyes closed then as soon as I open them, it’s all hidden because I have really hooded eyes. Whilst I do love watching lots of make up tutorials, I don’t tend to follow them because it wouldn’t work with my eyes anyway.

So I feel like I’m slowly starting to get the hang of making the most of the eye shape I have  so I thought I’d share. The main thing I learnt is that taking photos of your own eyes is actually really difficult and that my ‘good eye’ (the one that has a less intense prescription in my glasses) is more hooded then my ‘bad eye’ – the things you learn ey!

Look 1: Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Pen eyeliner and L’Oreal False Last X Fibre mascara – for the simpler, in more of a rush days! If I struggle to make my eyeshadow visible I’m not going to try too hard on lazy days – sometimes I’ll try and do a cat eye flick but a lot of the time I don’t have the time or inclination to try and get it right. Often I won’t even use eyeliner, but mascara is a good way to lift and open up the eyes too. Though, this L’Oreal eyeliner that I spent £10.99 on wasn’t worth the money – it doesn’t replicate false eyelashes and the ‘fibre’ thing is a lie – I don’t even know which of the two steps is meant to have the fibres. Wouldn’t recommend it!

Look 2: Gold eyeshadow and mascara – I love gold and brown tones when I’m doing eyeshadow and a slight step up from the ‘basic’ look 1, is look 2 (more of an alternative than a step 1). A fairly light gold, shimmery toned eyeshadow from a Sleek palette so old that I don’t think they make it anymore and I’ve hit pan on most of the colours while some remain completely untouched. Paired with mascara I think this combination really lightens up your eyes and makes them falsely look a little bit bigger.

Also I thought taking a photo with my glasses on would be a good idea. It wasn’t because the reflection of the window is definitely not helping anyone.

Look 3: The Full Shebang – two eyeshadow colours that I didn’t blend very well, eyeliner and mascara, nice one. I used a much lighter gold shade for the base of my lid and a darker, almost burgundy mahogany colour that I tried to apply to the crease and blend out but this did not happen. However, if I put more effort in (which clearly I didn’t feel the need to do to take these photos today) then this look can really work for hooded eyes as it gives the perception of depth and makes you feel a little bit more like an accomplished make up… person.

I tried okay.

At the end of the day – whatever face shape or features you have and however you apply make up or don’t apply make up, you look great. You do you – beauty gurus aren’t everything.

february favourites

2017, lifestyle, music, photography, student, travel

Hello!

This month seems to have flown by – I can’t believe we’re already on the third month of the year. All of my favourites from February seemed to have blurred into January, so there are a few crossovers but I’ll justify that when I get to it.

img_9577

My new lipsticks: Maybelline ColorSensational 150 + 157 – they’re the same brand as the lipsticks I talked about in my lipstick blog post but they were on two for £10 and I couldn’t resist. I’m trying out a few more pink-toned shades and this was the perfect excuse for a Barbie pink and a more subtle dusky pink. The one thing I will say is that I find the colours aren’t as strong as I expected and they’re very, very creamy – something I didn’t notice with the nude one I already had, probably because of the colour.

img_9578

All the new make-up from my sister – my sister had a clear out of the make-up she had doing the ‘cruelty free’ thing that’s been going round YouTube and offered it to me. Now I know how that seems – I now own all the make-up that my sister threw out because it wasn’t cruelty free? My argument is – I’m learning from her and will not be buying products that test on animals in the future (I’ll need to check Maybelline New York) but for now, the money has already been spent and it would be a waste of a decent product to not use it at all so I’m going to use them with no intend to repurchase. Does that make it okay?

Screen Shot 2017-03-02 at 21.39.22.png

obviously this isn’t the album artwork, this is just me pretending I’m funny

Dirty Laundry / All Time Low – thinking about it, All Time Low haven’t released any new music since I was in sixth form. I was beyond excited for the new song and when listening to it for the first time and watching the video, I wasn’t too sure but then having it on repeat, I really love it. I’m so excited for Last Young Renegades to be released in June and I’m beyond excited for the two dates of UK tour I’m seeing in a couple of weeks. All Time Low still stand to be my favourite band even in my seven or eight years of following them, they’re my perfect genre of music.

Dance competitions – my dance teams have competed in two comps so far this season and I’ve actually really enjoyed it, surprisingly so. I won’t pretend I was excited for the season – I loved dance last year but comp days were dreaded and I hated them. This year I’ve really thoroughly enjoyed them and I think it’s because I understand it more or maybe they’re just giving off a different vibe this year, but it’s fab. The first comp we went to, Future Cheer, we placed surprisingly well in and we weren’t expecting it which is always fun and the second comp my mum and boyfriend managed to come to so it was really exciting to be able to show them what I’ve been training for. My boyfriend has never seen me dance before so it meant a lot to me that he was there.

img_9583

My current bullet journal spreads – I know I mentioned my bullet journal in my last favourites and it had its own blog post but I’m finally settling into it and exploring more – my weekly spreads are starting to look prettier and I’ve been using a habit tracker to. I love that I can do literally anything I want with my bullet journal and how expressive it can be. I’m starting to learn more about writing in pretty fonts and making my journal most effective for me and I love it.

Work experience at BBC Three – it’s only been three days but already it’s brilliant, I’ve learnt so much about the industry, I feel so involved and I’m so impressed by BBC Three as a production company and as a division of the BBC. Everyone is so friendly and inclusive and I’m getting a chance to have a go at everything and it’s so much fun. So far I’ve been doing research for a couple of departments and helping with rights reports but hopefully I’ll get to go out on a shoot, help with some video editing and maybe work with the social media team. I’d love to write something for the BBC Three website too but I’m not sure if I’m confident enough in my writing for that. I’ll do a full run down of the week on my uni blog so tune in for that at the weekend.

img_9579

My new boohoo bag – I wanted a smarter bag for the BBC and I love this one – it’s so slouchy and comfy and I can literally chuck everything in. Normally I carry my computer everywhere and it’s really refreshing not having it with me and carrying a smaller bag.

Peri peri chicken with rice salad – my boyfriend and I tried out a bunch of new recipes when I was trying to go on a health kick and this peri peri chicken recipe is incredible – we’ve becoming obsessed with infusing everything with honey. If you’re interested, I’ll do a recipe post with how to make it, though I found it in Kayla Itsines 28 Day Bikini Body book thing.

462a8b321edf8bdb63e83226bddeee6f.jpg

The new house – I don’t know if I mentioned it but my friends and I have sorted a house for third year and I’m so excited to move into it! I’ve already made a bunch of plans for my room that I’m really excited about. I want a canvas with elephants on it to hang down the back of my bed and I want it to be covered in fairy lights and polaroid pictures, the whole room (and house) will be covered in fairy lights and I want everything to have a place and have space to feel relaxed. I can’t wait to have a proper place to call my own and I’m so, so excited to move away from Student Housing Company – anyone looking for student residences, don’t live with student housing company: they’ll scam you for your money and you’ll live in the tiniest scabbiest flat there is.

img_9581

Maybelline New York Master Precise Liquid Liner – I was looking for a new pen eyeliner as mine wasn’t doing what I wanted it to do and I think I’d been annoyed by trains so I was in a bad enough mood to justify spending money on make-up. It was a bit of a gamble – I know I like felt too own liners and the felt tip bit of this liner was longer and I can make a really precise wing, I really love it. And those are my favourites for last month!

Now for a couple of admin bits – an update in terms of working out and exercise, it’s come to a bit of a halt, especially since I’ve been doing 6am starts with commuting to London to get to the BBC and not getting back till gone 8pm. I’m very, very tired. I still want to start doing home work outs it’s just really discouraging when I have a 2 by 4 foot space in my room and that’s it. But right now, I’m so sleepy.

I also wanted to talk about why I didn’t upload a photography post last month because I really did try – I couldn’t think of a theme so my plan was to take my camera out and take photos every 20 paces and piece it all together to make a video so it could be what I uploaded to my YouTube channel for the week as well as being my photography post! But my camera ran out of battery and I ran out of time to edit and it’s an idea I still really want to do but I want to have the time to do it well so I don’t want to rush it. Hope that’s okay!

I also plan to include more films in the upcoming favourites because I loved writing my La La Land review but the only films I really watched in February were La La Land and Split, which I didn’t enjoy particularly but I wasn’t moved enough to write a blog post about it, I’m really excited to see Logan in a couple of weeks though.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, I’m hoping I’ll be able to keep up with blogging while I’m at the BBC but these long days are really taking it out of me right now.

Thank you for reading,

Sophie xx

September Favourites

2016

Hello!

This post was actually scheduled to go up on Friday but with the MAC event I went to being on Thursday, I figured I’d write that post on Friday and give you a bonus Sunday post too!

14488973_10207197561238195_1267024757_o

The first thing on my favourites this month is an app that me and Lucas have been playing for a while now – it’s called Mystic Words and we’re obsessed. You get seven word clues and then tiles with combinations of 2, 3 and 4 letters and you have to figure out the words. We’re on the 6th pack, Level 26 and that means we’ve done a lot of levels… like maybe a couple of hundred levels… maybe… I mean, at least it’s not something mindless like flappy bird.

We mostly enjoy making silly words out of the word tiles. Envelope was not envelope.

img_8991

I loved the Jungle Book before September – the animated film was a massive part of my childhood and the new ‘live-action’ film is absolutely astonishing, I adore it. So when Lucas bought me this set for my birthday, I was very excited. I’ve since watched it twice. I might watch it again tomorrow now that I’m reminding myself how good it is.

And this is the first DVD in my collection of Disney DVDs! I’ve decided I’m starting my own collection so now it’s officially been started.

img_9013

I really love the new flat I’m living in… over the summer, my boyfriend and I had a separate contract with the same company so we only moved into our flat for the year at the beginning of the month. Would you like a full flat tour with lots of pictures? Leave a comment if that’s something you’re interested in!

img_9007

Another birthday present! This one came from my friend Nikki and it’s this gorgeous candle holder – it came with all these wax melts that you put in the little dish on top and they all melt together and smell amazing. I’m obsessed with it and I’m glad to have an excuse to be burning candles again! I just love candles. A lot.

img_8993

Now this is one of my favourite favourites – NYX lip colours. I’ve seen a lot of amazing things about NYX products and particularly the matte liquid lip colours and I was so impressed – they’re so easy to apply, they last so well and they were so reasonably priced…

img_8994

So I bought four? I just… I love red and dark purple lip colours but also nudes and I got all of these for less than £25! That’s cheaper than the MAC lipstick and pencil I bought!

I have NYX Lingerie in Bedtime Flirt, two NYX Liquid Suedes in Cherry Skies and Kitten Heels and a NYX Matte Lipstick in Siren. I’m obsessed with all of the above.

img_8996

This one is more of a birthday present to myself… let me explain; I’ve wanted some decent over-ear headphones for a while, I bought a cheap pair but they weren’t the size I wanted so I sent them back. I saw these Ted Baker headphones and I was in love – they looked beautiful, they looked the size I wanted and yes, the £47 which was cheap compared to the ones that were hundreds of pounds but it was too much for me to spend on one thing.

Then my birthday came around. I got Amazon vouchers for my birthday. I used about £2 of my own money in the end and oh my goodness, they’re absolutely beautiful. I wear them all the time – to the gym, when I’m editing, when I just want to mask in their beauty.

14536598_10207197563758258_379544554_o

This photo album I’ve been excited about for a long time – I’ve wanted this ever since I did my first shift at Paperchase and since being fired for no valid reason, I obviously don’t want to go back to the Southampton store, so I waited until I was home for my birthday and my Dad offered to buy it for me!

I got a bunch of my favourite photos from my first year of university printed out in the style of polaroids and I stuck them all in the scrapbook and I really do love it. I’m now someone who’s going to make photo albums for everything because I love the idea of being able to look back on all of these photos when I’m old, maybe with children and grandchildren and telling them the story of when my flatmate Nick wore a Chewbacca onesie and said ‘Chewwie got dollaaaaa’.

img_9008

Another delayed Paperchase purchase – I was thinking about if I wanted a new bag for uni this year and I came to the conclusion that I only every take my laptop to uni so I only really need a laptop bag and this one is beautiful.

img_9010

It’s a black padded material, pretty bog standing doesn’t draw too much attention but it’s the rose gold detailing I like – all of the metallic elements, including the zip, are a beautiful rose gold colour and I feel like it’s a perfect bag for me. I love it.

img_8997

This was another birthday present to myself – I’ve wanted a Nintendo DS for a while. Since being with my boyfriend I feel like I’ve been reintroduced to the gaming world and with Pokemon Go coming out and my consequent new obsession with that and the new Sun and Moon games coming out in November, I wanted my own console.

This is a New 3DS XL in Metallic Black. I picked it up from CEX because it was about £35 cheaper than buying it brand new and it still works like new. Lucas has leant me his copy of Pokemon Y so I can familiarise myself with the game before the new ones come out and I’m really excited about it.

I blame Lucas.

(Also I know I’m about 15 years late with the Pokemon thing but I never watched it or played it as a kid… I’m having a good time so it’s okay)

img_9000

The last thing in my favourites this month is the Collection ‘Lasting Perfection’ Concealer. Any beauty bloggers out there would be screaming at me – yes, I know I’m a million years late to the party but holy smokes this concealer! It blends absolutely beautifully, the first time I used it I was surprised that it took so little effort to blend it in to my foundation.

I’m obsessed and I’ve already bought a second one for when my first one runs out because I adore this concealer to try and cover my awful eye bags.

So there are my 10 favourites for this month! I really like writing these posts – would you like them to be a regular feature?  If you enjoyed this post please do leave a comment because I’d love the feedback!

It wouldn’t always be 10 things and it wouldn’t all be beauty or a particular genre of items, it would just be a nice round up of things I’ve loved in the month!

Thank you for reading,

Sophie xx

MAC #Liptensity pre-launch!

2016

img_8961

Hello!

Yesterday I went to a MAC exclusive, pre-launch event to promote the new ‘Liptensity’ range, at the MAC store in John Lewis in Southampton with SotonBloggers. Did I remember all the key words and locations? I think so!

The new range all came about because Maureen Seaberg has a condition called tetrachromacy. Being a tetrachromat, means that she has four different types of cone cells in her eye whereas everyone else has only three – a condition which only women can have, interestingly enough.

She worked with MAC to make 24 new shades of lipstick, using her ability to see a hundred million colours to tweak the colours to the best they could be.

img_8960

“We wanted to make them as pure and clear as possible.”

The range is full of bright and varied colours that are still wearable – what I mean by that is the colours aren’t bright green and blues and yellows, they’re still ‘normal’ lipstick colours, with a range of bright reds, dark berries and more subtle nudes to suite whatever colour anyone might want to wear.

I bought a shade called marsala, a dark berry red with pink undertones (do I sound like a beauty blogger yet?) and I’m obsessed with it. I also bought the pencil ‘Rebellion’ and one of the beauticians at the MAC store applied them both for me.

14445033_1745674739020065_1928245531331489235_o.jpg

It will never look like this on my lips again.

The application of this lipstick was so nice and I love how depending on what you’re wearing it could be dressed up or dressed down as a casual or more formal colour. The formula is super nice and it was super comfortable to wear too, though if I’m honest it didn’t last too long because it was patchy by the time I took it off a few hours later.

The event surrounding the new launch was so nice – the staff at the MAC store were really chatty and lovely, the girls from SotonBloggers were really cool about bringing people together and introducing people and everyone there was absolutely lovely and it was so much fun to network and find out about other peoples blogs!

It was so cool to be surrounded by other people who love blogging as much as I do, because I don’t actually know that many people that blog. I can’t wait for the next SotonBloggers event to meet more people!

Go check out SotonBloggers on Twitter and Instagram for pictures of the event and MAC Southampton’s instagram for gorgeous MAC product pictures!

Thank you for reading,

Sophie xx

6 product make-up look!

2016

Hello!

I’m someone who’s very lazy with the make-up they wear  – if I can afford to go a day without make-up I will purely because I’m lazy but I have a very generic look that I wear on days I’m working or on days where I need to look more presentable.

Last time I was applying this ‘look’ (if it even deserves to be called that) I realised that it was actually only six products and having watched YouTubers who use so, so many products when they’re doing make-up, I thought I’d talk about how I put this look together!

I start with foundation – I have a very buildable foundation so if I’m doing a fuller face of make-up but for this look, I do a very thin layer just to reduce the redness in my cheeks and that’s the entire point. That’s it.

Next step is concealer – again, that’s just to get rid of any blemishes and under eye circles and just more ways of covering my skin. Nothing special, this blog post could be so short. I didn’t think this through.

After the skin make-up, I fill in my brows. Mostly because if I don’t, it looks like I don’t have any and even though my glasses generally cover them, I just like filling my brows in because when I do my make-up, obviously I have to do it without my glasses on so it just looks better when I’m not wearing glasses.

Next I do eye shadow – because I have very oily/sweaty eyes (sounds so gross when I actually write it out), it makes everything stay in place a little more and it also makes it look like I’ve put way more effort into my appearance than I actually have and that’s, like, most of the reason I wear eye shadow. And glittery nude shades are my favourites.

After that, I skip the eyeliner and go straight to mascara because at the moment, I’m getting super bored of eyeliner and I just can’t wing eyeliner anymore and my favourite eyeliner seems to be giving me some sort of allergic reaction so for now, I love some really bold lashes. My mascara is not as great as it used to be though so any recommendations for really bold mascara would be much appreciated!

And the last product – the sixth and final product! Lip colour can change a look entirely – a nude shade can keep it all pretty basic, a red lip shows that at least some effort was put in and a dark lip is saved for a night out that was last minute but you don’t want it to look last minute.

Lipstick is my favourite and if I had more money I would own so much, so many lipsticks.

To be honest, I’m always looking for different products and other brands to compare and see if they’re any better than what I have but if you have any recommendations for drug store make-up please leave it in the comments!

Thank you for reading,

Sophie xx

What’s in my make-up bag

2016

Hello!

I’ve wanted to write those post for a while and today is the day! I thought I, as a complete make up novice, would take you through the contents and products of my make-up bag. Let’s get going!

IMG_8777When I’m applying make-up, I start with foundation – I use the Rimmel London Match Perfection because I find it’s quite thin but buildable. It’s really nice to apply and it smells really good too, which is always a bonus when you’re half asleep and trying to paint your face a little bit. The only reason I wear foundation is to cover some of the redness in my cheeks and I find it fulfils that purpose and could function for heavier coverage too.

IMG_8780

To match my foundation, my concealer comes from Rimmel London too – I use this concealer on the bags under my eyes because I look like I have been punched in the face, all time time. I find with this concealer you generally don’t need as much as you think you do – I always end up using excess on other areas of my face, but again, it’s a very good product.

IMG_8782But sometimes I need another concealer, for the really bad eye-bag days. This one is a little bit heavier and I find that it’s good for covering blemishes as well as under eye bags and it’s just good for the days when you need a little bit more support. Like a good push up bra y’know.

Can you tell that my approach to make-up really isn’t very professional?

IMG_8787One thing I very recently acquired and I’m just starting to get the hang of is contouring – I picked up this ‘contour kit’ (if you could call it that) from Maybelline and so far I’m impressed with it. As someone who knows very little about make-up and contouring, I feel like it’s a good way to learn to start using it and to start learning more about the structure of the face, from a more technical approach to make-up I guess.

IMG_8789In terms of face make-up, the last product I use is a powder that I’ve used so much that the name and brand has rubbed completely off the lid. It’s nothing particularly special as far as I’m aware – I know my sister has a transparent powder whilst mine is a very light coloured powder but it makes my face less shiny and sets my skin make-up without using a setting spray as such.

See, I know things like ‘setting spray’ exist but do I use them? Of course not!

IMG_8791Next step is my brows – I fill them in as accurately as I can by using a combination of the light brown and the blonde shades I just fill them in. I don’t pluck, shape or dye my brows because I’m not capable of getting it right or affording to go to a salon to get them done professionally. But I like filling them in because I’ve got very light brows and they need some colour in them just to be able to see them.

That’s literally all I do on my brows. Am I a disappointment now?

IMG_8796My next step is applying my lip colour – these Super Stay 24 Colour stains from Maybelline are my go to. Caramel Creme is my favourite nude colour but they’re such a solid, lasting colour. I usually apply the colour before doing my eye make-up and then apply the setting balm to make it shiny and keep the colour set for the rest of the day. These colours really don’t come off at all and I can’t wait for more colours to be released in this line.

IMG_8797My eye make-up is what I take most pride in but then, in terms of people who are actually good at make-up, I’m still not very good. First, I apply a base coat of a pretty neutral colour (usually the one third from the left on the top row), then putting the lightest shimmer shade on the inner corner of my eye and a darker colour to try and give my eye some definition and try to be better than what I actually am. This is a Revolution pallet and whilst it’s a little pigmented, I adore it.

IMG_8803My favourite eyeliner is this liquid liner from Revlon – it gives a really solid black colour and I find the shape of the pen makes for a really good wing too. I’ve got a few other eyeliners in my make-up bag and I often switch between a few – if I’m lining my lower lash line I’ll use a pencil I’ve got and a gel liner for when I’m feeling adventurous. Eyeliner is always my favourite but there are often days that I don’t bother with it because I know I can’t do it well – those are the tired days!

IMG_8809After eyeliner, I often use two mascaras – one to prep my lashes and one to really sculpt them. The first is the Wonder’Full mascara from Rimmel and to shape I use the 24 hour Super Curler, also from Rimmel. I couldn’t praise this mascara any higher – as someone who doesn’t have particularly long lashes, this eyeliner makes it look like I’m wearing false lashes all the time. It makes me feel powerful, like I could actually kill a man. Like, metaphorically, but cool.

Now to go through what I have in my make-up bag and don’t use everyday and why I don’t use it every day!

IMG_8813So many spare lip products! More super stay colours – the top one is Caramel Kiss, the one that is too close to nude and you can’t actually tell I’m wearing it. The bottom colour is a bright red I’ve forgotten the name of, but I save it for a night out and I really, really love it. It’s a bit more difficult to apply because it’s a darker colour but I still love it.

IMG_8814Next is Tanya Burr’s lip gloss thing – I don’t really like this one but I don’t have anywhere else to put it really. The colour is a little bit too bright and it really doesn’t stay on the lips very well, as well as feeling sticky and uncomfortable. I’m not even subscribed to Tanya Burr as a YouTuber so I’m not even sure why I bought it to be honest.

IMG_8815This one is quite a recent investment – it’s called the Vivid Matt Liquid from Maybelline but I found that the colour isn’t as strong as it is in the bottle. I’m yet to try and test it properly but I wore it to work and it wasn’t as dark as I wanted it to be. But I am going to try and layer it a bit more as I think it could be buildable.

IMG_8822This is my favourite lip colour outside of the super stay ones – the only proper lip stick I own and it’s a proper dark red. It needs topping up fairly regularly to maintain it’s colour but it goes on really nicely and it’s super comfortable to wear. I always hope to find this colour in the super stay design so I can wear it more often.

IMG_8826These used to be my favourite lip pencil applicant things before I got the super stay ones – these pencils aren’t particularly strong in colour but they last really well, they’re super easy to apply and reapply and writing this post has reminded me of how much I loved these – definitely going to be making these more of a regular!

These are all the swatches from all the lip products I mentioned, in the order I mentioned them. (The Tanya Burr one has completely warn off in the 2/3 hours between taking the photos and writing the post)

Now to go through all the eyeliners I have and don’t use regularly!

IMG_8830This eyeliner is a felt tip, I love the shape of the pen and it’s really accurate in terms of doing both lash liner and wings, but the colour fades fast and it looks like a pen running out of ink. I often use the liquid liner to top up the colour once I’ve drawn the shape with this pen. It’s a nice little, fairly cheap, high street brand.

IMG_8833This is the pencil I use to line my lower lash line – I don’t often do it because I generally just find it accentuating the bags under my eyes a few hours later but I love that it’s not something that you have to sharpen, you just wind it up and buy a new one when it runs out. I’ve actually been using these pens for years – I really do love them!

IMG_8836This last liner was my go to before my current favourite. It’s a gel, angled liner that, again, is good for drawing wings. I go through phases with eyeliner and I’m sure I’ll find a place for it again soon, but for now you can see how well loved it was from the eyeshadow distributed all over the rubber tip!

IMG_8837The last product in my make-up bag is an old mascara – it’s a sports, waterproof one again from Rimmel and like the Wonder’full one with Argan oil, it’s good for prepping the lashes for a stronger mascara. I should probably throw it away, because I’ve had it for a while but it’s always been a good mascara that I do go back to.

And that’s everything in my bag!

This post isn’t for people who know what they’re doing with make-up, as I’ve mentioned a few times, but it’s intended for those like me who don’t really know anything and I hope, in some way, I could help!

I do like make-up and what I tend to do is pick one new product at a time and learn it – my next step is contouring hence the new Maybelline product! I’m still working on it.

If anyone has any recommendations then please do leave them in the comments! Or if anyone wants to give me free stuff, drop me an email that would be fab – I’d love to be spon, I’ll use hashtag ad in the title and everything – maybe I’m a sellout now.

Thank you for reading!
