Hello!
I’ve been looking forward to this TBR ever since I cancelled my Illumicrate subscription because it’s the first month where I don’t have books that I don’t know anything about on my list! It feels less intimidating, I’m more excited and I feel like I can finally start to tackle my TBR a little bit better!
I still have my book club pick to read, I’m still going through my Famous Five collection but now I can go through my 24 in 2024 list! Does it mean I’ll get through everything on my TBR for the month? Absolutely no guarantee but I feel more confident and excited about it!
So I’ve got 7 books on this months TBR so let me tell you all about them!
Book Club Pick: Myths and Legends by Philip Wilkinson
Do I know anything about this book? Not really! I think it’s a non-fiction book and I picked it because it’s the last on my list (sorted by author’s surname) and honestly, I have no other rhyme or reason for it! When I read ‘The Book Thief’ by Markus Zusak it was the last book on the list and it was really convenient to move in my spreadsheet, I don’t need any other reason.
To be honest, October feels like the right time to read a fantasy based book and I think I’m going to dip in and out of this one throughout the month and may even inspire some fantasy creative writing which I definitely need right now!
Famous Five: Five Fall Into Adventure by Enid Blyton
The penultimate book in my ‘Famous Five’ box set and it’s another category I’m looking forward to ticking off (though I have another series I intend to read monthly starting next year). The audiobooks for this series are only 4-5 hours long and because it’s a children’s book, the narration is really slow so I can listen at 2x and still comprehend it which means I can listen to this book in about 2 hours so I want to try and plan an afternoon to binge it and get it done.
New Release: A Pirate’s Life For Tea by Rebecca Thorne
The sequel to ‘Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea’ getting it’s traditional publishing release – I wasn’t going to preorder this because I haven’t read the first book yet, but the Waterstones Special Edition is beautiful so I had to get it, which explains the next book on my list…
Catching Up: Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne
I’m planning to read both of these books back to back and conveniently I think these books have very autumnal vibes! It’s cosy fantasy, it’s sapphic and there’s dragons on the cover and that’s about all I know about it. I absolutely bought both of these books because I think they’re beautiful but I’ve also seen some fantastic reviews and that’s all I need – I’m looking forward to getting into it!
24 in 2024: Powerless by Lauren Roberts
For a series that I own both of the first two books in the trilogy and the spin off novella, I really should have read this already but I just haven’t yet. But again, I think this is the perfect time of year to read it! Though that might just be because October feels like the best time to read fantasy.
I’m dubious about this one because when it first started blowing up on TikTok I saw so many amazing reviews and exciting tropes and then as the dust settled I saw some of the fantasy girlies who have similar tastes to me saying it’s more of a mish-mash of tropes and not anything ground breaking so now I’m worried I won’t like it. I’m trying to keep an open mind, but I’m a little bit scared ngl.
24 in 2024: 0.4 by Mike Lancaster
This is a book that I’ve had on my shelves since I was a teenager and I’ve definitely read it before, but I want to read it again to make sure I still like and care about it enough to keep it. If I remember correctly it’s a dystopian sci-fi story, potentially middle grade (maybe YA) and I think I remember it being quite fast paced so I’m hoping I’ll be able to tick this one off relatively quickly.
24 in 2024: The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving A Fuck by Sarah Knight
A non-fiction book I’m actually excited about! I read ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck’ by Mark Manson and loved it and I definitely need some more help with not giving a fuck about stuff that doesn’t matter, that’s for sure! I’ve not read enough non-fiction this year and this is one that I’m actually looking forward to, I might even actually annotate it and highlight it and try to learn something from it!
And that’s everything. I have two audiobook credits and I’m not sure what I’m going to use them on yet but I’m excited to find out.
Thank you so much for reading,
Sophie xx
