Hello,

The above image shows my awful editing software Power Director 13 (don’t get it) trying to pre-render a video just so I can finish editing it without it skipping or glitching on me. I’m getting increasingly annoyed with it so I’m taking a blogging break.

I’m nervous about this video – I covered one of the songs 5SOS released three days ago, Lost in Reality, but I’ve done it in a way I’ve never done before and I’m not quite sure if it’s worked or not.

I’ve done a purely vocal cover – so I’ve sung a melody, a harmony, a lead guitar, a rhythm guitar and a drum (ish) line separately (which is the tricky bit) and I’m now editing it so they all play simultaneously and it sounds a little bit like the song. But it’s nowhere near as impactful because I’m a teenage girl and they have electric guitars – they’re somewhat more hard hitting.

When I was recording, I really wasn’t sure whether it was going to come together or work, to the degree that I actually recorded a second video that I could edit tonight if the cover didn’t work. Luckily, I don’t think I’ll need it. I just need my asdfghjkl software to work.

(side note – I got distracted again, the pre-render didn’t even working and I’m blogging as procrastination now)

So with that negative outlook at the beginning, realising it’s actually easier to sync up the audio than I anticipated and it’s actually sounding pretty good, I’m really happy. This is like the first proper music ‘editing’ (if you can call it that) I’ve ever tried – I’m mixing different tracks and layering them to try and make it sound like a song. I think that counts as music editing. Even if the quality is… questionable.

It’s not the best cover I’ve ever done but it’s the most complicated to edit and I’m proud of this video before I’ve even finished with it (despite how angry I’m getting with the software).
