Hello!

Today I got my second tattoo – at face value it’s the 5 Second of Summer logo, dig a little deeper and it’s also a Doctor Who reference, deep down it symbolises the five people who got my through the best and worst year of my life and I adore it.

I chose to go to a different artist because I want to find someone I connect with and I want to shop around local tattoo artists until I find that connection and I think I may have found it today. 

I was dubious about whether I should get this design, as it is a fandom tattoo and – as someone who’s pretty scared of commitment – I don’t know if I’m going to like the band in 10, 15, 30, 50 years. But my best friend told me that you have to see it as a marker of who I was when I got it – at 18, this band meant a lot to me and this signifies that. Without the blog I created dedicated to this band, I don’t know where I’d be – it helped me focus, find something I wanted to study at university and help motivate me to what I actually want to do.

Without the blog and consequently the band, I wouldn’t have that focus.

When I first found 5SOS and saw their logo I thought of Doctor Who and the episode with the silence, I believe it was in Series 6. I’m one of those Doctor Who nerds that can watch an episode and probably give you the Series, Episode, Title and name three of the guest actors. I really love Doctor Who so the thought of having a multifandom tattoo makes me really happy. My old tumblr url was ‘they-call-her-multifandom-girl’ so I suppose it’s an attribute to that!

And lastly – the five people that got me through the last year. It’s an applied meaning – I took the fandom and gave it something more meaningful and I’m happy to admit that this wasn’t the primary thought when coming up with the idea. My mum, my sister and my three best friends mean the whole world to me and even if it wasn’t the main reason I wanted this tattoo and I hope they understand the meaning of it.
