Hello!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – writing a blog post every day is hard work and I often find myself googling ‘Blog Post Ideas’ to find some inspiration. Today, I found a website that suggested an ‘A to Z’ of the subject of your blog. My blog doesn’t really have a subject, if anything the subject is me and it’s a little bit too vain for me to to an A to Z of myself but I talk about music a lot, so I thought I’d do an A to Z of songs!
A: Adored By Him – Dodie Clark
I wrote a blog post about this song (which Dodie Clark read and liked and my brain turns to mush every time I think about it) but I love how relatable this song is and how sentimental Dodie makes it.
B: Break Your Little Heart – All Time Low
I can never quite tell what genre All Time Low are but I normally settle on pop-rock, sometimes leaning more to either side. ‘Break Your Little Heart’ I find is more pop centred but it’s catchy and I get it stuck in my head a lot.
C: Centuries – Fall Out Boy
I have shared my love for Fall Out Boy a lot but Centuries made me more excited for American Beauty / American Psycho than I knew I was capable of being – completely incomparable.
D: Don’t Stop – 5 Seconds of Summer
I quite often think of Don’t Stop as in between song – after their debut single and before Amnesia, their go-to, slow, ballad song but whenever it’s played I party hard – I love the video so much that my friend Jenny and I recreated it and it’s one of my best videos if I do say so myself.
E: English Love Affair – 5 Seconds of Summer
Reluctantly, I call this my favourite song on 5SOS’s debut album. I say reluctantly because I love them all so much but I adore this song, I have a connection with this song and it might be because I am English but it is probably because it has an amazing bass line and it’s really good. Just a really good song.
F: For Baltimore – All Time Low
To be honest, I struggled thinking of most of these songs but For Baltimore sprung to mind instantly – like Centuries, it got me really pumped for the next All Time Low album to be released and it remains one of my favourites – songs like this really helped me expand my range so I can sing lower.
G: Guts – All Time Low
I’ve found that there are a few instances where a band overtakes two consecutive letters but Guts is a phenomenal song – it’s one of my best friend’s favourite All Time Low songs and I’m going to see them on Friday for their DVD recording at Wembley – I’m buzzing!
H: Happy Little Pill – Troye Sivan
I’ve been following Troye Sivan on YouTube for a long time and hearing that Troye was going to be able to release music was so exciting – Happy Little Pill is so chilled and metaphoric, I love it.
I: Irresistible – Fall Out Boy
I just really love Fall Out Boy – I love American Beauty / American Psycho and Irresistible is one of my favourite songs on the album, it’s so catchy and I sing it a lot.
J: Jungle Skank – JP Tronic
It doesn’t follow the genres of the other songs but this one’s more for sentiment – when I went to Tanzania, the group that had arrived before us knew the dance to this song and they taught our group and it’s a dance that me and a few of the people that went still perform at every opportunity, it makes me really happy.
K: Kids In The Dark – All Time Low
I’m in love with this song. It’s just been released as part of the pre-order for upcoming album Future Hearts and this song is simultaneously more rock than pop and a little bit punk (maybe) but I’ve fallen in love with this song.
L: Life Is A Highway – Rascal Flatts
I heard this song in the Disney Pixar film Cars and I thought it was so pop, rock and motivational – it’s so happy and I always end up dancing to it, it’s an amazing song.
M: My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark – Fall Out Boy
Fall Out Boy’s come-back song is incredible. ‘Irresistible’ if you will (see what I did there?) No more needs to be said.
N: Novocaine – Fall Out Boy
Another song from American Beauty / American Psycho that I absolutely adore. Potentially my favourite but it’s such a good album that I can’t actually pick a favourite. I really like Fall Out Boy.
O: The Only Reason – 5 Seconds of Summer
The Only Reason is actually a really sad and a really romantic song but as a B-side to their debut single She Looks So Perfect it’s somewhat overlooked but it’s a really beautiful song that I adore. How many times have I said ‘I love this song’? Oops!
P: Practice Makes Perfect – Cute Is What We Aim For
My friend introduced me to this song when we were making a playlist for a writing day we had probably a few years ago now but I ended up buying the whole album because it’s so catchy and guitar-based. I love it.
Q: (Kings and) Queens – 30 Seconds To Mars
I cheated a little bit, but I really love 30 Seconds To Mars and This Is War is one of my favourite albums of all time, I couldn’t not include it! Kings and Queens is a stunning song and it’s a phenomenal album.
R: Rescue Me – You Me At Six ft. Chiddy
This song came out maybe five years ago? It was the first song by You Me At Six that I really loved and the more mainstream element that Chiddy brought to it made me fall in love with this song when I was fourteen.
S: Save Rock and Roll – Fall Out Boy
Hey look, more Fall Out Boy. I had to include Save Rock and Roll because there are lyrics from that song that I want to get tattooed on my wrist (‘You are what you love not who loves you’). The song features Elton John and it’s almost-certainly-maybe one of my favourite songs on the album Save Rock and Roll.
T: Time Bomb – All Time Low
My favourite song on Dirty Work. Maybe. I’m not very good at picking a definitive favourite. But I love the video for Time Bomb and it might actually be my favourite All Time Low song ever. Ever. Maybe. Possibly. Probably.
U: Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars
I think there’s a fandom for Uptown Funk and I’m in it – I’m obsessed with this song and I actually love it. It was definitely my favourite song up for an award at the BRITs and it’s my favourite song in the UK Top 40 at the moment. Now that’s more definitive.
V: Voodoo Doll – 5 Seconds of Summer
This is the first 5SOS song I really fell in love with and the first 5SOS cover I put on my YouTube channel when She Looks So Perfect went to number 1 in the UK charts around a year ago! With hindsight, Voodoo Doll is a kind of childish song in it’s subject but it’s so catchy and happy that I can’t help but still love it.
W: What I Like About You (cover) – 5 Seconds of Summer
The live version of this song makes me want to perform so much – I loved this song when it was used in the Shrek soundtrack and when 5SOS covered it I loved how much rockier it was and how guitar-y it was and I feel so repetitive right now.
X: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Does this amount of X’s cover for the fact I don’t know any songs that start with X?
Y: Year 3000 – Busted
Busted (alongside S Club) were my first favourite band – I knew all their names, I had their albums, I had a t-shirt and I wrote a three page diary entry when they split up about how hopeful I was that they’d get back together. I love all the covers of this song and how it seems to have become an initiating song for a wannabe band to become a real band and I’m so excited for the McBusted tour next month.
Z: I feel like I should know a song beginning with Z but I don’t so we’ll gloss over it, yay!
That took a lot longer than I anticipated but I really enjoyed it! 24 out of 26 letter’s isn’t too bad! If there’s any other topics you’d like me to do an A to Z of, let me know in a comment!
Thanks for reading,
Sophie xx
