Why hello all!

I’ve mentioned writing a lot in these blog posts and I can’t imagine I’ll stop for the foreseeable future. Today I’ll limit it to what I was thinking about writing this afternoon, just for the sake of a reasonably lengthed blog post!

I started writing as a form of procrastination – back in October 2008, I had just started secondary school and I hated homework as much as every other 12 year old; writing was my way of convincing my parents I wasn’t wasting my time.

Nothing’s changed – I got home from school today and did a bit of homework (legitimately), watched some YouTube, ate dinner and then went back upstairs to do some more work. I didn’t get any work down this time.

I’ve also mentioned before that I run a 5SOS blog on tumblr – part of the reason this blog is so popular is because I write original content, which is my way of trying to make writing fanfiction sound more glamorous than it actually is. On this blog I currently have around 16 requests (it doesn’t sound like many but 1) I’ve had over 100 before and 2) they’re going to be pretty lengthy when I actually write them) and I’m actually being pretty organised right now – I’ve almost finished my current request, I’ve started the next one and when procrastinating from doing any work today, I pulled out my writing notebook and started writing the third request.

I love writing by hand – it always started off really neat, then experiments into a different kind of neat and then starts getting really, really messy as I get more and more into it. I wrote 9 A5 pages today and I’m really happy with how it turned out.

It’s nights like this that make me want to drop everything and write for a living – I love exploring and molding my characters, hinting at things that will happen later on and using more subtle elements of a scene to affect the mood.
