When I was a kid I never thought I’d be someone who wanted tattoos. My parents don’t like tattoos so that view was always inflicted upon me. When I heard the word, I’d think of intimidating, well-built men with sleeves of ink and I still don’t really like excessive tattoos.
I started liking tattoos when singers and celebrities I liked got them – Zac Efron, the High School Musical star of my childhood got tattoos and I didn’t hate them. Calum Hood of 5 Seconds of Summer has a few tattoos but they’re all meaningful and sentimental and that’s what I want.
Pictured above are 8 tattoos that I want, each of them are very important to me and I know where I want them. The music note is going to be my first (hopefully I’ll get it fairly soon) and I want that on my inside left wrist. I don’t know which one I’ll get next but I want the feather either on or along my right collar bone, the heart rate monitor on my left pinkie finger, the tally on my inside wrist, the Fall Out Boy lyrics on my inside left wrist, the elephant and the Greek somewhere on my ankles and 24601 (Jean Valjean’s prison number in Les Miserables) potentially on my ribs.
Whilst my parents don’t like tattoos, they both know I want them and they will know when I get it. My mum says if I get decent grades in my mock exams then she’ll pay for it for me. I’m not encouraging anyone to go behind their parents backs and be the rebellious teenager that having tattoos suggests, no way. I like subtle tattoos and all of these are important to me. I can’t imagine regretting them.
But I don’t know that I won’t – people change, people grow up and I have no doubts that I will too, but I don’t think that any of these designs are stupid enough that I’ll be ashamed of them. If I don’t like them, they’ll be a marker of who I was when I got them.
This fear of regret (if I can call it that) is that main reason I want the music note first – I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving music and whilst the music I like will probably change, my love for music is going to be around for a long time, I think. I can’t wait to get it.
