I think we’re all perfectly aware of the gossip that’s going on but for completenesses sake I shall explain.
Sam Pepper is an English YouTuber living in LA. He has over 2 million subscribers and 1.6 million followers on Twitter. He is renowned for making public prank videos on his channel and he recently uploaded a video called ‘Fake Hand Ass Pinch Prank’ where he arranged the hoodie he was wearing so he could hide his hand and pinch girls bums whilst asking them for directions.
He’s masking his sexual harassment as entertaining prank and doesn’t seem to see a problem with this.
I don’t want to promote the video but if you’d like to watch, dislike and report it, you can do that here: Fake Hand Ass Pinch Prank
A bunch of people have been supporting Sam, saying it was just ‘harmless fun’ and the ‘raging feminists’ were taking it too far and I would like to explain why this is wrong.
Each and every girl that Pepper assaulted reacted negatively to his action and said that they didn’t like the gesture. Not only can this be very simply categorised as sexual harassment but it can also promote rape culture – if Pepper thinks it’s okay to touch women inappropriately in public without their consent, how far is he willing to go without their consent? I wonder and fear for how he treated his past girlfriends, I really do.
The main reason I wanted to write about this is that some people in the comments of his video have been saying that girls wouldn’t have a problem with it if it was a girl feeling up a boy and I beg to differ – I don’t think the reaction would be the same but it would be as 100% unacceptable as the reverse.
I think that the ‘famous’ girl YouTubers, whether they be famous for sketches and pranks or not, would never approach something like this because they’re much more likely to know what it’s like to have been touched by guys trying to flirt with them or sneaky assholes on trains.
In conclusion, the whole topic shouldn’t have to be discussed – Sam Pepper is disgusting and from browsing through his old videos, I’m surprised it’s taken anyone this long to realise that he’s such a rude person.
‘My name’s Sophie and I urge you to dislike and report Sam Pepper’s video making entertainment out of sexual harassment’
